Parent Consultation

Our parent consultation is a supportive first step if you have concerns but are unsure where to go. Perhaps a teacher has raised slight concern, or you have noticed your child is struggling in comparison to their peers. Perhaps somebody has mentioned Autism, Dyspraxia or Sensory Processing differences. Whatever it may be, we take this time to begin an in-depth discussion either in the comfort of the clinic or online.

We will explore your child’s or adolescent’s unique strengths, challenges and daily routines, what has been happening at school or at home, any concerns and review their development and sensory profile.

This conversation helps us determine the most appropriate next steps, whether that’s beginning occupational therapy or guiding you toward the right services to support your child’s needs. The aim is for you to leave the consultation with clear, thoughtful guidance tailored to your child that may include therapy options, resources or referrals to trusted professionals.

Parent consultation, including a play-based observation with your child, is also available upon request. Available in clinic or home environment.

Occupational Therapy Assessment

At Ignite OT, every assessment is tailored to your child. Our goal is to understand how your child experiences the world and what supports they need to thrive in daily life, whether at home, school, or in the community.

What’s Involved?

Step 1: Intake Forms are sent to the parents/caregivers and teachers. Upon return, these are reviewed in detail along with any other previous reports or relevant documentation.

Step 2: Assessment – Depending on your child’s age and needs, we observe their play, movement, sensory preferences, fine and gross motor skills, emotional and behavioural responses, executive functioning, visual perceptual skills, social interactions and more. Clinical observations, standardised and non-standardised assessments are used accordingly. We provide the most up to date researched based assessments. (90min-120min)

Step 3:  You will receive a comprehensive report including a breakdown of your child’s strengths and any areas of need as observed/reported/discussed. Furthermore, practical recommendations for home and school are included along with onward referrals to other professionals if deemed necessary.

Step 4:  A feedback session will be arranged to discuss the report in more detail, go through any questions and establish a plan of action. (30min)

School Observational Visit

An Occupational Therapy school visit observation provides a comprehensive view of the child’s functional participation within the school environment. We will observe the child during both structured classroom activities and unstructured playtime on the yard, gaining valuable insight into how the child engages with learning tasks, navigates transitions, and interacts socially with peers and staff. Key areas of focus include the child’s ability to attend to tasks, follow multi-step instructions, organise their workspace and materials, and plan and carry out actions effectively. The therapist also considers how the child processes sensory information—such as input through their ears (auditory), eyes (visual), and body (movement and touch)—and how this may impact regulation, focus, and behaviour. As part of the visit, the therapist will consult with the classroom teacher to gather additional observations and context. Guided recommendations are then provided to support the child’s participation, learning, and engagement across the school day. A written report is also available upon request.

Intervention

Occupational therapy intervention for children is a one-on-one, individualised process that focuses on helping each child work toward personalised, collaborative goals. Every session is tailored to the child’s unique strengths, challenges, and developmental needs, making the experience different for every child. Intervention is rooted in play—the primary occupation of childhood—which makes therapy both engaging and enjoyable. Through playful, meaningful activities, therapists support skill development in areas such as motor coordination, sensory processing, emotional regulation, and daily living tasks, all while fostering confidence and independence in a fun and supportive environment.
